What does engineering mean to you?

I asked my third-year reflection students to draw a picture of what engineering means to them. I loved seeing all their responses. This is an activity I remember doing in a class and I even found mine from my junior year of college.

As you can see, collaboration, serving society, using your heart and your mind, and solving global challenges were common themes!

I had them do the activity on the back of their name tents. I think name tents are such a good first day of class activity. I hang on to them throughout the semester and have students pick theirs up on their way in and leave it on their way out. That way, they don’t forget to bring it, and it’s an easy way to take attendance (by seeing any name tents that don’t get picked up).
