Thanks to a successful travel grant application to the Purdue Graduate Student Government I was able to attend the 2019 American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida, in November. Considering how cold it was in Indiana before I left, it was especially nice to head south and enjoy some beautiful Florida sunshine.
This was my first AIChE meeting and I really thoroughly enjoyed it. I was able to kick things off on day one in a session about searching for a faculty position and then shared my research experience and vision for the future at the ‘Meet the Faculty and Post-doc Candidates’ Poster Session. My out-of-the-box poster design (pictured above) was well-received and got a lot of people to stop and talk to me which I was very thankful for!

Another highlight of the meeting for me was attending the Women in Chemical Engineering (WIC) Luncheon, where Dr. Peyton from U. Mass. gave a very interesting and engaging talk. The WIC luncheon networking was also fantastic and I was able to make a lot of great connections!
Last but certainly not least, I got to present my research in the Integrated Process Engineering and Economic Analysis session. It was a really great session covering quite a few different but tangentially related areas of interest and I got three truly excellent questions from the audience. After the talk I hopped on a shuttle to the airport and returned to a snow-covered Indiana. All in all it was a great and highly productive conference experience and I’m excited to hopefully return in the future!
